Sanders started seven games after arriving as a surprising fifth-round selection. His 1,400 passing yards, seven touchdowns and 12 interceptions tell only part of the story, as he demonstrated playmaking ability and composure in an offense lacking consistent protection and weapons.
The signal-caller remains confident in his own development, insisting that he proved he can dominate at times and that maintaining consistency is the next step. “I’m able to dominate the league… now, to do it on a consistent basis, that’s what the goal is,” Sanders said on the Up & Adams show.
Head coach Todd Monken has not named a starter, but Sanders has the backing of Garrett, who emphasized that the team will let the QB1 earn the role through competition. “We’re going to give him an opportunity to show what he can really do,” Garrett stated on a podcast with Micah Parsons.
The Browns currently have Sanders, Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel under contract for next season. Monken indicated that development remains a priority, citing Watson’s Pro Bowl past as a potential contributor if he returns to form following injury and time away.
Watson, acquired in 2022, has struggled with injuries and inconsistent playing time in Cleveland. He returned to practice late last season but did not make the active roster, leaving Sanders and Watson and a surprised Dillon Gabriel as the immediate quarterback options for the club.
As the competition unfolds, Cleveland’s quarterback situation remains fluid. Monken’s evaluation will consider both youth and veteran experience, with a focus on maximizing Sanders’s potential while ensuring depth and competition at the position.
