The Green Bay Packers could target a major upgrade at wide receiver this offseason, with George Pickens cited as a natural fit given Green Bay’s need for a premier target and its existing trade relationship with the Dallas Cowboys. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox highlighted the Packers as one of six teams “must pursue” Pickens, noting Green Bay’s lack of a consistent top receiver beyond the current young group.
Knox argues that while Jordan Love connected with a budding receiving corps, Green Bay lacks a true, game-changing separator like Pickens. Romeo Doubs, who led the team in receiving this season, is a pending free agent, and while the Packers hope 2025 first-round pick Matthew Golden develops into a top target, he isn’t there yet.
A hypothetical Packers-Cowboys trade for Pickens makes sense on paper, partly due to the teams’ prior deal involving edge rusher Micah Parsons. However, several obstacles remain, including Green Bay’s lack of a first-round pick (already sent to Dallas for Parsons) and the cap implications of acquiring Pickens. Knox suggests the Packers could explore a trade, but Dallas may demand a first-rounder or hold firm on an extension.
If the Cowboys are willing to trade Pickens for a second-round pick, Green Bay could be a viable destination, provided cap space can be managed and the teams can align on a long-term deal. Pickens, 24, is slated for unrestricted free agency, with the Cowboys likely able to use a franchise tag to maintain leverage and potentially trade him if an extended agreement isn’t reached.
Pickens has posted at least 800 receiving yards in each NFL season, including a breakout 2024 campaign with 93 receptions, 1,429 yards, and nine touchdowns, earning second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl recognition. A Green Bay acquisition would give Love a high-volume, consistent playmaker, complementing the Packers’ existing young receivers and potentially altering the team’s offensive dynamic in 2026.
