Releasing these players now, rather than waiting for post-June 1 designations, provides prompt cap relief—$7.3 million saved right away on Chubb versus $20.2 million in June if delayed.
The decision to cut Hill is the most notable development. At 32 and coming off a dislocation and ACL injury, Hill’s release frees up $22.8 million in 2026 spending room, while the team absorbs approximately $28.2 million in dead money. Hill’s exit makes him an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career, with the Chiefs widely viewed as a potential destination given his historically explosive role in their offense.
The broader moves also include the releases of Chubb and Daniels, and the addition of Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, collectively expanding the cap space cleared to more than $56 million when factoring all four moves, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
