Jesse Minter brings a rich coaching pedigree but is new to leading a program as a head coach. He has spent years developing as a strategist and leader, including four seasons as a Ravens defensive coach under Harbaugh.
Rick Minter, who has nearly 50 years of coaching experience and served as Cincinnati’s head coach from 1994 to 2003, brings a vast defensive background and a track record of developing players and schemes at eight previous stops.
The two have worked closely for years, first teaming up in 2006 at Notre Dame, and later at Indiana State, Georgia State, Michigan, and the Los Angeles Chargers. Their long collaboration now extends to Baltimore, where Rick will join Jesse on the Ravens’ coaching staff.
Rick has long praised Jesse’s leadership and game-planning abilities. He observed firsthand at Georgia State how Jesse breaks down offenses, puts together workable game plans, and earns players’ buy-in—traits Rick says he’s carried across his coaching stops, including Michigan and the Chargers.
A key part of Jesse’s ascent was a call from Rick to John Harbaugh when Jesse sought another coaching opportunity after Georgia State. Harbaugh offered an interview, and Jesse impressed, leading Rick to tell Harbaugh that Jesse is “a clone” of him in terms of attributes and leadership. Now, as Jesse forges his own path, he will rely on experienced voices—starting with his father—alongside him in Baltimore.
