Virgil, 27, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos in 2022, posting two receptions for 75 yards including a 66-yard touchdown on his first NFL catch. He appeared in nine games with one start that season but was placed on injured reserve before the 2023 campaign.
The Bills signed Virgil to Buffalo’s practice squad after he was waived by Denver, and he eventually reached the active roster, appearing in seven games in 2024. He was released and re-signed to the practice squad, then signed a future/reserve contract in January 2025 before being waived ahead of the season.
Virgil did not play in the NFL last season and spent time in the United Football League.
The Bills’ receiver group is expected to undergo changes this offseason after uneven production in 2025, with insiders noting the possibility of cutting ties with underperforming veterans. One analyst specifically mentioned Curtis Samuel as a potential release to save cap space; Samuel signed a three-year, $24 million deal with Buffalo before 2024 and posted 31 receptions for 253 yards and one touchdown that season, followed by six games, seven receptions for 81 yards and a TD last year.
The Bills could also look to the NFL Draft or trades for additional WR help, with speculation linking Buffalo to various targets and long-shot trade hopes, including Minnesota star Justin Jefferson.
Virgil’s signing adds a familiar, veteran presence to a reshaping WR room as Buffalo evaluates competition for a final 53-man spot and aims to bolster its pass-catching options for the offseason.
