CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles recently named Carolina among the top destinations for Walker, arguing the team could use a dynamic back to boost its offensive ceiling.
Pereles notes that Carolina finished 28th in explosive play rate last season, and with Bryce Young not routinely generating big-gains through the air, adding a playmaker like Walker could be transformative. He also points to the Panthers’ strong run-blocking unit (ranked fourth by Pro Football Focus), suggesting Walker could thrive behind that upfront win rate.
Walker’s 2025 season included 1,027 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on 4.6 yards per carry, with 1,309 yards from scrimmage. He also totaled 164 rushing yards in a standout Week 16. In the Super Bowl 60 win over New England, he rushed 27 times for 135 yards and added two receptions for 26 yards.
The report also highlights Walker’s apparent desire to remain in Seattle if possible, noting the running back’s affinity for the city and its fans, and suggesting that would be his preference if it were his choice.
Carolina’s current backfield includes Rico Dowdle, who led the team with 1,076 rushing yards in 2025 but is slated for free agency. Chuba Hubbard, who signed a four-year extension in 2024, finished 2025 with 511 rushing yards and a 3.8-yard average, while posting a league-worst 0.7% explosive rushing rate. The analysis implies Walker could provide the kind of explosive pop the offense has lacked.
While nothing is certain, Walker’s age and production, combined with Carolina’s run-blocking strength, position the Panthers as a plausible fit in free agency. Teams will continue weighing Walker’s best steady path to impact and optimal team fit as the market develops.
