Callahan will replace Shea Tierney, who was not retained after three seasons in the role. Tierney had followed Brian Daboll to Tennessee earlier this year when Daboll was named the Titans’ offensive coordinator.
The move adds a veteran quarterbacks coach to the Giants’ development plans for budding franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart. Callahan’s background includes coaching stints that emphasize the passing game and quarterback development, areas the Giants have prioritized to elevate their offense.
Prior to this, Callahan served as the Titans’ head coach for 23 games, finishing 4-19 before being fired on Oct. 13 after Tennessee started the 2025 season 1-5. His departure opened the door for the Giants to pursue the on-site interview and contract.
Callahan hails from a football family, as the son of former NFL head coach Bill Callahan, who recently joined Kevin Stefanski’s staff with the Atlanta Falcons as their offensive line coach. Brian is widely recognized as a quarterbacks guru, with experience developing signal-callers at multiple levels of the NFL.
His résumé includes time with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he helped orchestrate top-10 offenses in 2021 and 2022 and coached Joe Burrow during the team’s rise to prominence, including a run to Super Bowl LVI. The Giants hope his expertise will translate into more efficient passing and better protection for Dart.
With Dart finishing fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2025 and ranking second on the team in rushing, Callahan’s role will extend to game-planning leadership and additional QB-specific coaching. The hire is expected to bolster New York’s passing-game output, which ranked 21st in passing yards per game in 2025 (204.4) and marked the franchise’s best finish at that metric since 2019.
