Kuntz, now 26 and turning 27 before the 2026 season, was the 220th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft (seventh round) by the New York Jets. He spent two-and-a-half seasons with the Jets before being released ahead of the 2025 roster cuts.
At the NFL level, Kuntz has appeared in just two games, totaling three offensive snaps and 10 special-teams snaps, underscoring how far he is from reaching his high-ceiling potential.
In college, Kuntz played at Penn State and Old Dominion, posting 39 games with 88 receptions for 862 yards and seven touchdowns. He turned heads at the scouting combine with elite length and athletic testing, including a 4.55-second 40-yard dash, a 40-inch vert, a 10’8” broad jump, and a 23-rep bench press, while boasting an 84-inch wingspan and 34-inch arms.
Scouting notes from pre-draft analyses highlighted a rare physical profile but questioned his on-field polish. Lance Zierlein projected him as a Day 3 pick with concerns about hands and big-frame conversion, while Dane Brugler noted he was a developmental No. 3 tight end whose size and speed could be appealing once refined. Daniel Jeremiah praised his athleticism for a player his size.
Despite the high upside, Kuntz has yet to put together consistent production at the NFL level. If a coach can unlock the tools he possesses, he could still emerge as a valuable developmental asset, even as he remains a long-term project. The Dolphins’ move keeps him within the AFC East, where another opportunity to tap into his potential awaits.
