Reich’s hiring comes after Glenn moved on from offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, with the goal of bringing Reich aboard to run the Jets’ offense. The team announced Reich’s arrival on Wednesday morning.
Reich brings a varied NFL resume, including previous stints as a head coach with the Panthers and Colts, as well as extensive experience as an offensive coordinator. He also served as Stanford’s interim head coach in 2025 before returning to the NFL.
The move follows a difficult 2025 campaign for New York, during which the offense struggled to find consistency while cycling through quarterbacks Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, and Brady Cook. Defensively, the Jets were historically quiet, becoming the first unit in NFL history to go a full season without an interception.
Glenn’s decision to overhaul the staff signals a decisive shift in the Jets’ plans for the offense, aiming to install Reich’s play-calling and leadership to stabilize a unit that underperformed.
The hire was reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, who noted Reich’s return to the NFL after his time with Stanford and his prior roles as Panthers and Colts head coach and as an offensive coordinator.
