Lombardi, 54, brings extensive NFL offensive coordinator and play-calling experience to Baltimore’s staff. He will work alongside Doyle as the Ravens look to sharpen their attack and aim for a strong season in a challenging AFC.
Prior to joining Baltimore, Lombardi served as the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator from 2021 to 2022, working closely with quarterback Justin Herbert. He previously held the same role with the Detroit Lions from 2014 to 2015, after spending five seasons as the Saints’ quarterbacks coach under Sean Payton.
Both Lombardi and Doyle credit their time with Payton as instrumental in shaping their coaching approach, noting the influence of that experience on their current philosophies and methods.
Lombardi is the grandson of Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi, adding a notable NFL lineage to his resume. In Baltimore, he is expected to help guide an offense that the organization hopes will return to the Super Bowl podium and contend for the franchise’s third Lombardi Trophy.
Addressing his Denver exit, Lombardi acknowledged that coaching changes are part of the profession. He pushed back on the idea that he served as a scapegoat, saying he wasn’t surprised by the decision and that Payton simply wanted to pursue a different direction. He also emphasized there’s no bad blood with Payton.
This hire represents another piece of the Ravens’ coaching shake-up as they continue to refine their staff under head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, with Lombardi bringing a wealth of coordinator-level experience to Baltimore’s offense.
