NFL issues statement regarding Steve Tisch’s involvement in Epstein files.

In San Jose on Monday, Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the newly released U.S. Justice Department Epstein files and acknowledged that Giants executive vice president Steve Tisch was named in the batch, saying the league will “look at all the facts” and examine the context of the exchanges.

The batch reportedly names Tisch at least 440 times and includes correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sex offenses. The material also touches on Epstein’s connections to longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted of sex trafficking in 2021.

Tisch has led the Giants’ board of directors since 2005, taking the helm after his father Robert Tisch passed away that year. The Giants have won Super Bowls in 2007 and 2011 under Tisch and Wellington Mara (the Mara and Tisch families have shared ownership since 1991).

Looking ahead, the NFL could pursue action under its Personal Conduct Policy if warranted, though no ruling has been announced. The league has precedent for owner-level accountability, notably in the case of Daniel Snyder and the Washington Commanders, who faced pressure to sell after misconduct concerns.

Goodell emphasized a cautious, fact-driven approach, saying, “One step at a time” and that the league will proceed once it has gathered and contextualized all relevant information. The outcome remains to be determined as the NFL conducts its review.
