ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has indicated the Jets will pare five initial candidates down to three, with in-person interviews taking place this week. Along with Bevell, veteran coach Greg Roman is named as another finalist, and insiders have floated Frank Reich as the third name on the final list, though nothing has been officially confirmed.
Bevell, 56, is well-traveled in the NFL coaching ranks. He served as the Dolphins’ quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator from 2022 through 2025, and previously earned a Super Bowl ring as Seattle’s offensive coordinator in the 2013 season. Across his 30-year coaching career, Bevell has spent 15 seasons as an NFL OC and helped Seattle reach five straight playoff appearances and two Super Bowls.
The Jets’ search followed the firing of offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, who quickly landed with the Atlanta Falcons as an offensive passing game coordinator. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has emphasized the need for experience at the play-calling level after the Engstrand tenure, with multiple offensive staff vacancies to fill beyond the OC role.
Insiders have suggested Reich could fit the profile Jets owner/general manager and offensive staff are seeking: an experienced coach with a long track record. Still, the third finalist remains unconfirmed, and the Jets are reportedly exploring multiple offensive hires that could extend beyond the OC position.
With three finalists expected to interview this week, the Jets’ decision on the offensive coordinator could come soon. As head coach Aaron Glenn looks to restructure the unit, the team is also eyeing other offensive coaching vacancies, potentially making multiple hires on the side of the ball.
