In a locker-room moment on Jan. 29, Williams candidly told reporters, “Y’all gonna kill me when I say this, but I did not like the Patriots.” He quickly added that he’s now all-in with New England, saying, “I’m here now, so I love the Patriots.”
Williams has been arguably the most impactful addition to the Patriots’ defense since last season, rejuvenating a pass rush that had lagged in recent years. Despite missing five games with a high-ankle sprain, he posted 3.5 sacks in the regular season and added two more in the playoffs, becoming a key figure along the Patriots’ defensive line.
Despite not growing up rooting for the team, Williams expressed deep respect for Tom Brady and the Patriots’ dynasty. He explained that while he wasn’t a Brady hater, witnessing the sustained winner’s mindset underscored why Brady is regarded as one of the sport’s best ever.
Contractually, Williams is under Patriots control through 2028 after signing a four-year, $104 million deal in the 2025 offseason. His presence gives New England a top-edge presence for the next three seasons, aligning with the franchise’s window to contend for championships.
The Patriots will travel to Santa Clara on Feb. 1 to begin preparation for Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 8. Williams, who played in last year’s Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles and logged two sacks against Patrick Mahomes, is among several Patriots with prior Super Bowl experience.
