Two OC candidates emerged in the latest round of talks: Jim Bob Cooter, currently with the Indianapolis Colts, who reportedly helped improve Daniel Jones’s production; and Colts passing game coordinator Alex Tanney, a name Giants officials are expected to interview.
Tanney’s background is notable: he was an undrafted quarterback who spent time with eight NFL organizations between 2012 and 2020, appearing in two games. After his playing days, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff in 2021, progressing from offensive quality control to assistant QB coach and offensive consultant, then serving as QB coach in 2023. He joined the Colts in 2024 as their offensive passing game coordinator.
Despite Tanney’s seemingly long odds, the Giants are willing to explore his fit for the play-calling role, and he is listed as a candidate to interview. He is 38 years old.
This OC search is taking place as part of Harbaugh’s broader efforts to shape the Giants’ coaching staff, following the confirmation of a new defensive coordinator and special teams coach.
Giants reporters and team insiders will likely provide updates on the offensive coordinator candidates and a timeline for interviews as the organization works to finalize Harbaugh’s staff.
