The Steelers are targeting James Campen, a former Packers offensive line coach, and Ramon Chinyoung, who previously coached the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer Gerry Dulac. Campen would bring a long history with McCarthy, while Chinyoung has been in McCarthy’s coaching circle since 2023.
Campen, 61, spent 13 seasons with Green Bay under McCarthy, starting as an assistant offensive line coach/run game coordinator before being promoted to offensive line coach. Since 2019, Campen has coached the OL for the Browns, Chargers, Texans, and Panthers, but has not coached in the NFL in the last two seasons.
Chinyoung has been with the Cowboys since McCarthy hired him in 2023, serving as the assistant offensive line coach and offensive quality control coach; in 2025 he remained in the Cowboys organization under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
In addition to these OL hires, NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported McCarthy also brought in Adam Henry as wide receivers coach, a move that aligns with McCarthy’s prior Dallas-time staff.
Some Steelers fans criticized the approach of targeting coaches familiar to McCarthy, but such hires are common in NFL coaching searches, as head coaches often leverage established relationships to build cohesive units.
Landing Campen and Chinyoung could bolster a relatively young Steelers offensive line as the team looks to develop depth and continuity for 2026, leveraging McCarthy’s extensive coaching network to shape Pittsburgh’s OL while he builds out his first Steelers staff.
