Jake Moreland joined the Texans in 2023 and spent three seasons with the club, working under head coach DeMeco Ryans. Under his tutelage, tight end Dalton Schultz enjoyed a career-best season with 82 receptions, up from 53 and 59 in the prior years. Moreland previously coached tight ends with the Denver Broncos and served as an assistant offensive line coach with the New York Jets.
Ben Bolling, who worked alongside the linebackers coaching staff, helped shape Houston’s defensive unit. Under his guidance, linebacker Henry To’oTo’o posted a 95-tackle season, with 105 tackles noted in 2024. Bolling arrived with the Texans in 2020 and spent five seasons with the organization.
Mike Snyder remained the Texans’ offensive assistant for two seasons (2024–2025), contributing to the development of the wide receivers, including Nico Collins, who logged over 1,000 receiving yards in the last two campaigns. Snyder previously worked as a football analyst for the Atlanta Falcons.
While internal options are likely, two or three external candidates have been floated as potential TE coaches. SportsTalk 790’s Adam Wexler named Jon Embree, Brian Fleury, and Scott Huff—all with ties to the Dolphins, 49ers, and Rams—as possible fits for the Texans’ tight end coaching role, though no final decisions have been announced publicly.
Meanwhile, C.J. Stroud’s performance in the playoff loss to New England has intensified questions about his long-term role in Houston. The rookie quarterback completed 20 of 47 passes (42%) with four interceptions and contributed to four of the five Texans’ fumbles. He finished the regular season with 3,041 passing yards and eight interceptions, while the postseason turnover tally rose to five. Texans coach DeMeco Ryans has defended Stroud, stating one game should not define his future, even as analysts debate whether to extend his contract beyond the fifth-year option through 2027. The upcoming offseason will determine whether Stroud’s playoff struggles are viewed as a setback or a signal for a broader commitment plan.
