Sherfield spent eight NFL seasons with seven teams, including a 2023 season with the Bills in which he helped secure Buffalo’s division title with a season-ending touchdown against the Miami Dolphins. His journeyman path this season underlines his role as a reliable depth piece and special-teams contributor.
This season, Sherfield moved teams multiple times. He signed with Denver as an unrestricted free agent from Minnesota, appearing in 10 games with three starts and recording three receptions for 21 yards. He was released by Denver on Nov. 15 and joined Arizona’s practice squad on Dec. 6, later being elevated to the active roster for two games. He then signed with New England to the practice squad on Jan. 13 and was released on Jan. 24.
New England highlighted Sherfield’s versatility, noting his significant experience on special teams—having played in 51% of the Broncos’ special-teams snaps this season—along with his ability to contribute on offense as needed.
Buffalo is expected to undergo wide receiver changes this offseason, particularly with Gabe Davis hitting free agency after an injury-plagued year. Davis had been a key target for Josh Allen since 2020, but his path back to Buffalo remains uncertain after leaving for the Jaguars and returning due to injuries.
Keon Coleman’s situation also looms large for the Bills. In his third season, Coleman was benched twice for missing practices and meetings, and a contentious public exchange involving team owner Terry Pegula and general manager Brandon Beane over his draft status sparked questions about his future in Buffalo. Syracuse.com’s Matt Parrino suggested there may be no clear path forward for Coleman with the Bills, despite the organization’s expressed belief in him.
