ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the nomination on X, citing a league source and confirming Humphrey’s spot as one of the six finalists.
The nomination caps a season defined by consistency and durability. Humphrey started all 17 regular-season games in 2025 and anchored an interior line that faced injuries and frequent personnel changes, keeping protection steady for Kansas City.
According to Pro Football Focus, Humphrey finished the season as the highest-graded center in the NFL, allowing minimal pressure and surrendering just one sack. His command of protections, line calls, and pre-snap adjustments consistently bolstered the Chiefs’ offensive efficiency.
Humphrey’s accolades this season extend beyond the nomination. He earned AP All-Pro First Team recognition and All-AFC honors, joining Travis Kelce as the Chiefs’ sole players to receive that distinction this year, with his resume also including PFWA rookie honors and continued All-Pro recognition.
A panel of legendary former offensive linemen, including Hall of Fame center Will Shields and former Philadelphia Eagles standout Jason Kelce, will determine the Protector of the Year winner. The league will announce the winner during the NFL Honors ceremony on February 5 in San Francisco.
For the Chiefs, the nomination underscores the franchise’s success in developing elite offensive line talent. For Humphrey, it could mark the first time a player wins the Protector of the Year award, further cementing his status as a premier center of his era.
