Babich comes to Green Bay after nine seasons with the Buffalo Bills, where he served in multiple roles under coach Sean McDermott and was the Bills’ defensive coordinator for the past two seasons. He arrives as the Packers look to replenish a defensive staff that has seen several assistants depart this offseason.
In Buffalo, Babich’s defense ranked seventh overall in 2025 under his leadership, with the unit finishing 12th in points allowed and 15th in takeaways. At Green Bay, he is expected to contribute to the secondary and handle responsibilities related to the defensive pass game, complementing new defensive coordinator Gannon.
Babich’s coaching timeline spans multiple stops and roles. He began as a graduate assistant at Kent State, coached defensive backs at Eastern Illinois, and held stints with the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, and Florida International before joining the Bills in 2017. His diverse background includes safeties and linebackers coaching before stepping into the Bills’ defensive coordinator role.
The move follows the Packers losing three defensive assistants earlier this offseason, including former defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who left to become the Miami Dolphins’ head coach. Packers DB coach Ryan Downard and linebackers coach Sean Duggan also followed Hafley to Miami, creating several vacancies for Gannon to fill.
As the Packers continue to shape their defensive staff under Gannon, Babich’s addition represents a significant step in stabilizing and shaping the unit. Green Bay will rely on his experience to help implement Gannon’s system while addressing the team’s needs in the pass defense and secondary leadership.
