The pursuit reflects a broader push to correct past missteps and jump-start a turnaround, as the Jets look to replace as many as seven assistants who did not return from last season.
Among the names connected to the Jets is Frank Reich, the former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers, who has drawn interest in this coaching cycle as the team seeks experienced leadership for Glenn’s staff.
Jon Gruden’s involvement was confirmed by The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, who reported that the Jets reached out to the former Buccaneers and Raiders head coach for a possible role on Glenn’s staff. Gruden, however, declined the overture.
Gruden’s NFL résumé is storied: he won a Super Bowl with the Buccaneers and compiled a 117-112 record across 15 seasons with the Raiders and Buccaneers. He resigned from the Raiders in 2021 amid controversy over emails and has not held an NFL position since, later serving as a Saints consultant in 2023.
The Athletic also noted that, if Gruden does return to the league, a Jets position in 2026 is not anticipated. Regardless, the Jets continue to evaluate options as they work toward a clearer, more stable coaching structure.
