Brady joined the Bills in 2022 as quarterbacks coach, after two seasons as the Carolina Panthers’ offensive coordinator. Working with franchise quarterback Josh Allen, Brady helped Allen post 4,000-plus passing yards in each of those seasons and total 64 passing touchdowns.
In 2023, Brady was elevated to offensive coordinator following Ken Dorsey’s departure, and a year later he was promoted again—this time to Bills head coach. He was also a finalist for the Assistant Coach of the Year award during that period.
The Bills’ decision to promote from within appears linked to keeping a key collaborator on Allen’s staff, especially as Brady drew interest from several other NFL teams, including the Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, and Arizona Cardinals.
McDermott issued a farewell message expressing pride in the staff and players and gratitude to the Bills community, highlighting the shared life and community impact that defined his tenure.
The Bills have not yet updated Brady’s team bio to reflect the head-coach title, but multiple reports confirm the signing of a five-year deal to lead the franchise. ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL insider Ian Rapoport provided the confirmation via reporting.
With familiarity to Josh Allen and a proven track record within the organization, Brady’s promotion positions Buffalo to pursue continued stability and on-field continuity as they reshape their leadership core.
