The first major step was naming a new general manager. The Dolphins brought in Hall of Famer Troy Aikman to consult on the GM search, and with his help they hired former Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan. Sullivan’s stated goal is to “build a tough, physical, talented team that’s resilient and can thrive in any situation, any element and win.” 💬🧠💪
With a GM in place, Miami has moved on to the head-coach search. After an initial round of interviews, a frontrunner has emerged: Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Hafley as the leading candidate, though no final decision has been made and more interviews are planned. Four other teams have requested second interviews with Hafley as well. 🔎🏃♂️🏈
The connection to Sullivan appears strong: Hafley is viewed as a “key priority” for Sullivan, who previously worked with him in Green Bay. Some insiders even say Hafley is a finalist everywhere he’s interviewed, including the Dolphins and several other notable jobs, making him a likely top target in Miami’s pursuit. However, Hafley could still opt for another destination. 🗣️🤝🔎
Hafley’s coaching background is mixed in terms of NFL head coaching experience but solid at the college level. He served as Boston College’s head coach for four seasons, going 22-26 overall while the program earned bowl eligibility in three of those years, including a 7-6 2023 season capped by a Fenway Bowl win over SMU. He returned to the NFL as the Packers’ defensive coordinator for 2024 and 2025. 🧰🎯🏆
