Wilson, 26, began his NFL career with the New York Jets after being drafted in 2021. Over 34 NFL games and 33 starts, he completed 57% of his passes for 6,293 yards, with 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. He was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2024, then spent a season with the Miami Dolphins in 2025 before signing with New Orleans.
During his time away from the Jets, Wilson saw limited action, appearing in a handful of games without starting a game for Denver and Miami. The Saints’ addition gives New Orleans three quarterbacks with starting experience in the room, alongside Tyler Shough.
The move comes amid a flurry of quarterback activity around the league, with several former Jets quarterbacks and peers securing new contracts in free agency. Wilson’s role in New Orleans will be to compete for playing time and develop within the Saints’ system.
At 27 before the 2026 season, Wilson enters a new environment with potential for a fresh start. The Saints’ quarterback room now features a veteran presence who can contribute both on and off the field, as they evaluate options behind Shough. This signing represents another example of teams prioritizing experienced backups to provide depth and competition at the position.
